What I Think Of PAN'S LABYRINTH

With a title like that, you can’t blame anyone for thinking this is a kid’s fantasy movie reminiscent of Narnia or even in my case, Peter Pan. ^.^ If there’s anyone of you who saw the picture above and knew that it was rated 18PL, I sense strong potential for you to make a career with the censorship board. Pan’s Labyrinth (PL) is in fact quite a violent movie. There’s two stories going on at once. Set in 1944, the real story is the fight between Franco’s fascist soldiers and the Communist rebels. The fantasy story about the girl is that she is actually a princess of the underground world (forgot what’s it called) who’s been banished and to get back she has to do complete certain tasks. Upon wikipedia-ing the film, I found out that it has won a lot of stuff, Oscars, BAFTA an all, and also earned a very high rating on RottenTomatoes. It’s THAT good! I only got to watch this violent definitely not for children Spanish film at the insistence of Quin Er. All in all, I’d say fans of Hanibal, Silence of the Lambs and other morbid, macabre films will enjoy PL the most. Oh, and just so you know, Pan refers to the faun in the film, whose name isn't even Pan. The literal translation of the Spanish title is 'Labyrinth of the Faun'
